Invisalign aligners gently shift the position of your teeth, moving them in any direction necessary. They send the right amount of pressure to each tooth at the right time. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign in Newmarket has no limitations to what you can eat and drink. However, you must take precautions to prevent damage to your teeth and Invisalign aligners. It will help you avoid cavities and keep aligners functioning properly until it is time to switch to a new set.

Removing Aligners to Eat

Although aligners are made from a strong material, they cannot withstand chewing forces. If you try to eat without removing your aligners, the material will break or at least distort, meaning the aligners will no longer be able to correct your teeth.

Protecting Aligners from Beverages

You should also remove your aligners whenever you want to drink:

Hot beverages. Hot temperatures warp aligners over time.

  • Acidic drinks. Soda and fruit juice both contain high amounts of acid. Normally, saliva washes your mouth clean, allowing you to avoid damage — provided you brush your teeth thoroughly later. With Invisalign, acid remains trapped on your teeth under the aligner and starts attacking the enamel, which can lead to decay.
  • Coloured beverages. With aligners, your saliva can also not wash away the colour of a drink. If colours stay on teeth, they may lead to temporary stains that can be difficult to remove with brushing alone.

Cleaning Your Teeth After Meals

To protect your teeth from cavities and stains, clean your teeth after every meal and drink except water before you reinsert your aligners. Suppose you have no chance to brush your teeth. At least rinse your mouth and chew sugar-free gum to remove food particles and acid. If this is also impossible, you should leave aligners for around one or two hours.
